Saint Nicholas the Miracle Worker is one of the most prominent hierarchs of our Church. His huge cult among different faiths, proves that the model is an example of faith, meekness and temperance.
St.. Nicholas was born approx. 260 years in the city of Patra in Asia Minor, the only son of pious parents. Even as a child exhibited a tendency to abstinence, solitude and prayer. Lives give us that even as a baby he fasted on Wednesdays and Fridays, refusing to accept food. At the request of his uncle - Bishop - young Nicholas began to prepare for priestly ministry and after reaching mature years he was ordained. Since then established himself as a priest exemplary life and his ministry to another person.
Already during his lifetime St. Nicholas appeared in a dream to different people and warned them against unworthy conduct. He was considered a defender in every need.
According to tradition, Nicholas was patron: poor and scholars, bakers, merchants, sailors, thieves, prisoners, young ladies. He is the patron saint of children. In arts is presented in the east is shown as an old man with a short gray beard, dressed as a bishop, holding the gospel. The name of Santa Claus comes from Greek and means "would be victorious for his people."
